Alumni from the 1950s returned to the Law School to mark the diamond anniversary of their graduation
On Thursday 8 October, Edinburgh Law School were delighted to welcome returning graduates from the Class of 1955. The group of 22 were welcomed by Head of School, Professor Richard Sparks. They then enjoyed a talk on Old College by Professor John Cairns. They learned about how the Law School has changed in the past 60 years and discussed the ongoing refurbishment project. This was followed by a lunch.
Some of the group opted to pose for a photograph in the Old College quad, recreating the graduation photograph taken 60 years before. Catherine Blight, an alumna who travelled from Cornwall for the event, commented that she “thoroughly enjoyed every minute”.
Writing to the Law School after the event, Mrs Blight (formerly Montgomery) added: “Looking round the table, I realised that my oldest and most loyal friends, now of at least sixty-three years standing, were there. At the same time, there was the awareness of all those who were no longer with us or who had not been well enough to attend. As we dispersed, I was overcome by a feeling of poignancy - the enjoyment of our meeting and the uncertainty of us all ever gathering together again.”
We hope to host further gatherings of the Class of 1955 in the future and we are always interested in supporting alumni reunions. If you are interested in connecting with your classmates, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
