Edinburgh Law School is saddened to announce the death of Professor John Kenyon (Ken) Mason on 26 January 2017, at the age of 97.
Ken was an Honorary Fellow in the Law School from 1985 until only a few years ago when - most reluctantly - he took retirement.
Ken taught medical jurisprudence in the School with passion and vigour from the early 1980s, originally with his friend and colleague Sandy McCall-Smith, and in more recent years with the School's current medical law team.
He has been - and will continue to be - an outstanding inspiration to his students, his colleagues, and his friends.
Ken is famous for many things - not least his long list of academic and professional achievements and his formidable publications. But for the School, he will always be remembered for his unfailing dedication to his students. He will be very sadly missed.
An online Book of Condolences is available for messages in honour of Ken.
The Mason Institute has launched a blog site dedicated to exploring some of Ken’s academic ideas and writings. Visit the site.
