Academics take part in project to empower women in Middle East conflict resolution

Enhancing Women's Leadership for Sustainable Peace in Fragile Contexts in the MENA Region will focus on Syria, Yemen, Iraq and Libya

Edinburgh Law School academics from the Political Settlements Research Project have embarked upon a hugely important project that aims to build lasting peace in some of the world's most troubled places by ensuring the involvement of women in post-conflict rebuilding.

Research shows that women's involvement in peace processes is crucial for success. The project will see the creation of five policy briefings on topics such as power-sharing, securing arrangements and governance systems.

The scheme will involve the United Nations, governments and special agencies so as to enable women to become more active participants in establishing peace in the Middle East.
