The European Young Lawyers Scheme (EYLS) is administered by the British Council.
The scheme is designated to give young lawyers from
across Europe an opportunity to study the law of England and
Wales or Scotland, and to experience at first hand how law is
practised by their British counterparts.
There are two separate programmes, one in Edinburgh and one in London. The London programme began in the mid-1960s with lawyers from France and Germany only, and the Edinburgh programme began in 1975. Since then the Scheme has expanded to include young lawyers from the whole of the European Union as well as, latterly, from many countries in Central Eastern Europe.
