| Visiting Scholars Programme |
We welcome applicants for Visiting Scholars from around the world to conduct research on the European Union and contribute to the Institute's events and activities.
Applications are considered on a competitive basis for short and long-terms stays normally not exceeding four months during the academic year. The Institute normally hosts no more that four visitors throughout the academic year.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
Academics at all career levels and senior practitioners may apply for Visiting Scholar positions at the Europa Insitute. Academic visitors must normally possess a PhD at the time of applying.
OPPORTUNITIES
Whilst in residence, Visiting Scholars are invited to participate in the Institute's extensive programmes. Scholars are provided with office space, computer and printing facilities and are issued a visitors card for access to the library and other swipe-card services.
Visiting Scholars are expected to deliver one public lecture in the course of their stay, write a paper for publication in the Institute's on-line Edinburgh Europa Paper series and contribute to the academic life of the Europa Institute and its students. Scholars may also be invited to present their research to the Europa Institute's Postgraduate Reading Group.
FUNDING
The Europa Institute does not normally provide funding for Visiting Scholars. Scholars are expected to have their own source of funding, such as sabbatical salary or external grants.
HOUSING
The Europa Institute does not directly provide housing for Visiting Scholars. Candidates may consult the University's accommodation services or independently search for various types of private short and long-term lets throughout the city. The Edinburgh office of Visit Scotland also provides useful information and tips about living in Edinburgh which you access here.
