| Past Events and Activities at the Europa Institute |
Reflecting its commitment to active engagement with a wide audience, the Europa Institute organises a variety of events for the academic, practitioner and public communities. This page details the events which have taken place in recent years at the Europa Institute.
Every year, we host an Annual Mitchell Lecture in the field EU studies. Previous Mitchell lecturers have included Professor Sir David Edward, Advocate General Eleanor Sharpston, Professor Steve Weatherill (University of Oxford), and Professor Tanja Boerzel (Freie Universitaet Berlin). The Europa Institute also co-hosts, with Edinburgh Politics and International Relations, the Erickson Lecture in the field of security studies and transatlantic relations. In 2009, this Lecture was given by Rt Hon Sir Malcolm Rifkind MP, former Foreign Secretary. In addition, we hold a number of one-off 'town-gown' lectures, with public figures such as politicians, senior civil servants and other opinion formers.
Europa members also organise a number of regular seminars, workshops and colloquia. Funded by various UK and international sources, these events involve speakers from inside the university, visitors, and postgraduate students.
