STUDY OF THE LEGAL FRAMEWORK ON HUMAN RIGHTS AND THE ENVIRONMENT APPLICABLE TO EUROPEAN ENTERPRISES OPERATING OUTSIDE THE EUROPEAN UNION

The University of Edinburgh has been awarded the tender to conduct the above study of behalf of the European Commission.
The European Commission seeks to clarify the existing legal framework for human rights and environmental issues applicable
to European enterprises operating outside the European Union, with a view to providing a basis for possible measures to
further operationalise the UN 'Protect, Respect, Remedy' Framework put forward by the Special Representative of the UN
Secretary-General on Business and Human Rights, Professor John Ruggie. The study aims to be useful for policy makers,
companies, NGOs and trade unions.
