Course Organiser: Dr Robert Lane, Dr Elisa Morgera, Mr Scott Wortley
The main aims and objectives of the course are to introduce students to the constitutional and institutional structure of the European Community and the European Union, as well as substantive EC law (that is, primarily, the law of the internal market). Throughout the course the enforcement of Community law will be addressed, and the interaction of the Community legal order with the legal systems of its Member States (primarily the United Kingdom) will be highlighted and explored.
Following discussion with the class representatives on Monday, in order to accommodate the views expressed through them the final fortnight of the semester has been rearranged thus:
a) the materials scheduled in the syllabus for 26 November and 1 December will be concertina'd into one lecture, on 24 November; a lecture handout for it will be available outside the Teaching Office from the start of Monday, 23 November.
b) the lecture scheduled for 24 November will now take place on 26 November; the material is already adduced in the present lecture handout.
c) This leaves the final two lecture slots (1 and 3 December) free for review and revision. The final session will include information on what to expect in the examination. But over the two sessions we hope to review the parts of the syllabus which have, apparently, given rise to confusion or uncertainty. Would students therefore please indicate in the forum section of the website, under 'review', those areas or topics of the course with which they had difficulty or there is still confusion. And please do so by the close of Wednesday, 25 November. This will give us the opportunity of preparing for review and revision to best advantage.
In light of some of the views aired on the course forum, a meeting has been call with the class representatives for next Monday (16th November) afternoon. They have kindly agreed to serve as conduit/sounding board. Would any student wishing to make his or her views known and represented at the meeting please therefore let a class representative know by lunchtime on Monday.
