The Treaty of Rome Conference

The Treaty of Rome, the European Parliament and the Regions and Substate Nations of the European Union

The Europa Institute was awarded substantial funding by the European Parliament to co-finance the organisation of a major conference and essay competition for University students in Scotland on "The Treaty of Rome, the European Parliament and the Regions and Substate Nations of the European Union". This funding had been awarded in the context of a competition run by the European Parliament Directorate General for Information inviting bids which highlighted some of the specific issues related to the role of the European Parliament in the development of European Integration, in the context of the 50th Anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.

The Conference took place on Saturday 19 January 2008 at the Surgeons' Hall Complex in Edinburgh, and the essay competition was run during Autumn 2007. Extracts of the winning essays are published on the BBC Scotland website.

All enquiries should be directed to A.Birdsall@ed.ac.uk.
