The Centre for Law and Society is an interdisciplinary research centre in the School of Law. It holds a distinctive place in the development of legal studies in the United Kingdom and internationally as a long-standing forum for exchange between scholars in philosophy of law, sociological and anthropological approaches to law, criminology and penology.

Current and Forthcoming Events
The Spring Festival events will run throughout April, May and June. A programme of events will be available here shortly. This year's CLS Annual Lecture will be delivered on June 8th 2012 by Professor Luciano Floridi, University of Hertfordshire, entitled "Norms as Informational Agents and the Problem of their Design". This year's Thursday seminar series focuses on the theme of law and conflict. A programme for the spring semester (2012) seminars is available here:

Recent events
Among the events that took place in 2010-11 are:
- our regular year long CLS Thursday seminar series, focusing on the theme of law and emotion
- the Spring Festival of Legal Theory, held in May 2011, including as its centrepiece the CLS annual lecture by Professor Nicola Lacey, Oxford University
- the first series of MacCormick Lectures, delivered by Professor Joseph Weiler of NYU, in the week beginning May 23rd
- an international seminar on Punishment and Society: Politics and Culture, on 11th and 12th May

We were also happy to host MacCormick's Scotland - a seminar to celebrate the life of Neil MacCormick and to consider the Scottish themes that are so central to his work took place on 4 June 2010.
