26 May 2009: Seminar: Professor Frank Michelman, University of Harvard, ‘Constitutional Authorship and Constitutional Authority’. 

This seminar discussed some of the influential arguments advanced by Professor Frank Michelman from the University of Harvard in the course of his accomplished academic career. The theoretical discussions were inspired by the backdrop of the longstanding American constitutional tradition, and further coloured by recent British and South African constitutional developments. The seminar brought together faculty members, undergraduate and post-graduate students; Professors Neil Walker and Zenon Bankowski were responsible for initially commenting on Professor Michelman's presentation.

Workshop: Sovereignty and European Integration

29 May 29 2009: A workshop was held on theme of sovereignty and European integration in the 'post-constitutional' era.  The workshop brought together lawyers and political scientists to examine sovereignty-related aspects of European integration.  Areas covered included Constitutionalism, Sovereignty and European integration, Sovereignty and Commission Enforcement, Treaty opt-outs, EU Foreign Policy and confederalism.  The event was funded by the Development Trust Research Fund, awarded by the University of Edinburgh's College of Humanities and Social Sciences and the Europa Institute.
