There are many ways in which the Careers Service can help Postgraduate students in planning their future. On this page are highlighted some of the key services we provide for students at the University. Careers Information

Our Careers Information resources are extensive – covering the different career areas that graduates go into, career planning, looking for work, including whilst studying and graduate jobs in the UK and globallystarting your own business, further studygaining experience, CVs, applications and interviews – and more! Information is provided via our website and at the Careers Information Centre at Third Floor, Main Library Building, George Sq. You don’t need an appointment to use our information resources – drop in and use us like a library on a self-help basis – and there is always a member of the Information Team on hand to help you find what you are looking for. Details of opening times.

Whether you have firm plans or no plans, you may find it useful to speak with an impartial adviser about your ideas. If you have a quick query or want some help getting started in using the Careers Service then use our daily Appointments service to see a Careers Adviser for a twenty minute conversation. Careers Service Events for Postgrads

Career Planning Workshops. We offer 3 half-day workshops to help Postgraduate Research students with career planning: Reviewing Your Career; Marketing Yourself Effectively and Planning your Academic Career are provided in partnership with the Postgraduate Transkills Unit. MBTI Personality Type Workshops
- these workshops explore personality similarities and differences, and how these can contribute to career planning and work place success. They provide an opportunity to develop your skills in communicating and working with others through an improved understanding of personality type. Looking for a job

Whether you're looking for part-time work, permanent employment, summer internships or something else, check our vacancy database SAGE regularly. We advertise hundreds of jobs in a wide range of sectors and the site is updated daily. Also use the Looking for Work section of our website for information and advice on job-hunting, and more links to vacancy sites. 

Advice on CVs, Application Forms and Interviews


You'll find advice on constructing an effective CV or application form and on how to perform well at interviews on our website here.

Consult reference material and view DVDs on application forms and CV writing at the Careers Service. Careers Advisers are happy to provide feedback on your own versions. Bring them to a full guidance interview or book a Short Appointment on the day.

In our Information Centre at the Careers Service we also hold reference material, including books, DVDs and magazines to help you brush-up your interview technique. You can also book a practice 'mock' interview with a Careers Adviser and get some constructive feedback on your performance.
