Each module has a requirement to complete a written essay (60%); by participation in online discussion and activities (20%); and a coursework assignment (20%). There is quite a variety across modules as to how this assignment is set - ranging from assessed debates, short essays, to contributions to a wiki. Each is designed to be relevant to the subject matter being covered, appropriate for the skills to be achieved, and moreover an interesting and motivating learning experience in itself.
Dissertation
Having successfully completed six modules within the LLM, you will be ready to move onto a single piece of independent and in-depth research. Your dissertation allows you to focus on a preferred topic from within the options available in the programme.
Title
Your dissertation must be in the field of the subject of your LLM. Your dissertation title will be agreed with your supervisor during your final semester of taught study. Supervision continues throughout the research and writing of the dissertation.
Aim
Your dissertation must demonstrate a comprehensive grasp of the relevant literature and an ability to engage in critical analysis. More credit will be given for originality and evidence of independent thinking, whether in terms of the material used, or the manner in which it is presented.
Timing
The dissertation is completed in the summer months after the taught modules are successfully completed.
