CPD  is defined as "a range of learning activities through which health professionals maintain and develop throughout their career to ensure that they retain their capacity to practice safely, effectively and legally within their evolving scope of practice".

Our online distance learning short courses meet  the CPD standards outlined by the HPC. Programme certificates of attendance can be used as supporting evidence when completing your CPD profile. You can also print out course materials to be used as evidence of course format & content. You can also draw on the different programme activities that you have completed on the course when completing your profile.

Royal College of General Practitioners

In September 2009, the RCGP implemented a credit-based system for CPD to support revalidation.

From the RCGP website: "The new system enables GPs to record their CPD based on the time spent on the activity and the impact it has on patient care. Each recorded hour spent on a CPD activity - which can include planning and reflection - counts as a credit and additional credits can be earned by demonstrating the impact of the learning. Credits are self assessed and verified at appraisal..."

To claim credits for online and distance learning courses, courses must demonstrate the learning achieved and relevance to general practice. GPs are encouraged to claim actual time spent on the course, and present additional reading or activity stimulated by the course within the same credit claim.

Our Law & Medical Ethics programme should certainly be eligible for you to claim credits, if you will be working to this credit-based CPD system in your practice.

We suggest five hours per week, so a total of 50 hours, but there are many opportunities to read more - from the textbook we supply and from the many references we provide throughout the course.
