PhD Research
The Centre has a vibrant community of over 20 doctoral candidates affiliated to the work of Co-directors. In previous years, these have included researchers studying, for example, copyright and higher education, community resources and the protection of traditional knowledge, telecommunications regulation, and intellectual property and competition law.
The current research students are exploring areas as diverse as:-
- Copyright law & the public interest
- Benefit sharing
- Patents, competition & human rights
- lessons from the Biotechnology Directive
- autonomous surveillance systems & the law
- human rights in the online context

The active doctoral community enjoys regular presentations to peer groups, desk space, and access to all of the resources available within the Centre & the School of Law, including computing facilities and the Law Library with one of the most important collections of legal materials in Britain. In addition, a regular schedule of high profile guest speakers and visiting research fellows provides further intellectual stimulus to progress along your chosen study route.
The Centre welcomes applications related to any & all aspects of intellectual property law ðics & the relationship between law & new technologies. The centre is especially interested in proposals related to its programme of which can be seen here on our Research page.
To be considered for postgraduate study as a PhD student, you must submit an application form and a short research proposal of not more than two sides of A4.
