The conference will be based at the Royal College of Physicians (RCPE) on Queen Street. This is in the Centre of Edinburgh and easily accessible. It is marked as ‘A’ on the map below.
The Drinks Reception on 14 October is at the Teviot House Dining Hall, Bristo Square. This is on the main University of Edinburgh campus, George Square. It is about a 10 minute walk from the Centre of Edinburgh (Princes Street) and easily accessible by bus. It is marked as ‘B’ on the map below.
The Conference Dinner on 15 October is at the Royal College of Surgeons, Nicholson Street. This is opposite the School of Law, Old College and is a 10 minute walk from the RCPE and Princes Street. It is marked as ‘C’ on the map below.
Travelling by bus
Edinburgh has one of the best bus services in the UK. There are frequent buses which stop near the Royal College of Physicians and the other conference venues. For bus routes and timetables please visit the Lothian Bus website (www.lothianbuses.co.uk). Please note that due to the construction of a new tram way in Edinburgh, all buses scheduled to stop on Princes Street are diverted along George Street. A bus route map will be provided in your conference pack.
Travelling by train
If you plan to travel to/ from Edinburgh by train, there are two train stations in the City. The main train station is Waverley Station, which is a 5 minute walk from the Royal College of Physicians. This is marked as ‘D’ on the map below. The second station is Haymarket Station. This is about a 20 minute walk from the RCPE or a 10 minute bus ride. This is marked as ‘E’ on the map below.
Travelling by car
I would not recommend travelling by car in Edinburgh, as parking is very limited and very expensive. If however you wish to use a car whilst in Edinburgh the nearest parking to the RCPE is the St James Centre car park, which is located off York Place. This is marked as ‘F’ on the map below.
Travelling by air
Edinburgh airport is located outside the main city. There is a frequent Express Shuttle bus (number 100) which provides a service to and from the airport and the city Centre. The journey takes approximately 30 minutes. The cost for this is £3 single or £5 return. Taxi fares from the airport to the City Centre cost about £20.

Taxis
Edinburgh has many taxis companies. It is usually easy to hail a taxi on the street, but if you wish to order one, the best companies to call are:
City Cabs: (0131) 228 1211
Central Taxis: (0131) 229 2468
Com Cabs: (0131) 272 8000
Travelling on foot
The best way to get around Edinburgh is on foot. A street map of the City Centre and surrounding area will be provided in your conference pack.
